Handbags

Well, not quite, but I have made a prototype so in theory, it could work:

"What am I looking at?" I hear you ask. In my mind, the floral cotton with some rough straps and blue zip is a sling bag. The crochet rectangles are the outer that you would see. Bit of a shame to cover up such nice lining? Personally, I'm not a fan of this design, it's kinda old and dated and was given to me by my mum years ago, no doubt it had been sitting untouched for years and years before that. So I used this lining as I didn't mind it being used for rough work, but if/when I come round to making the "perfect" bag, I'll just turn the lining so the patterned side will be showing inside when you open the zip. The straps will be done by machine and folded twice so the fabric edge won't be on show.

Seeing as this fabric is so old, I decided to look it up.

Turns out Crowson were very well-known across the UK (and possibly the world?) and only closed its doors in the last 20 years. I think their heyday was maybe during the 1980s? Clearly I've not retained much of the info I read the other day! Anywho, I am convinced of their quality, maybe I should just put the Crowson fabric I have into the wash and iron it and it'll be as good as new...

At least these granny squares don't look as messy as the pics above! But they do make your eyes a bit fuzzy if you look at them too long, right?!

Do you have a favourite square? Do let me know by leaving a comment below, or via WhatsApp or Instagram 😎

Thanks so much for reading,
